A Fort Erie man is facing multiple robbery and theft charges in relation to a series of convenience store robberies during the past month.
Police arrested the suspect, 29, after detectives spotted him in an Avondale store on St. Paul Street West in St. Catharines on May 4. The man fled from the detectives before a brief confrontation during which he pointed a gun at them. The suspect then tossed the handgun and ran before finally being apprehended. The gun was later found by police and is said to be a replica built of black resin metal.
Detectives began staking out convenience stores when the string of gunpoint robberies began.
As well as facing 12 robbery charges, the man is also facing firearm and resisting arrest charges.
