EVENTS

MAY 17

  • Crystal Beach neighborhood clean-up sponsored by Friends of Crystal Beach. 9 am-2 pm. Register at the Crystal Chandelier from 9-9:30 am. Please bring gloves and rakes/shovels if possible. Community involvement hours awarded to participating high school students. Call 905-894-7033 for more info.

  • Victoria Day fireworks at the Black Creek Community Centre, 2959 Baker Rd. 6-9 pm. Pony rides, bounce house, kiddie train, mini flea market. Bring your lawn chair and spend some quality time with your neighbours. Rain date Sunday May 18 at 9 pm. Donations to help support this event are greatly appreciated and charitable tax receipts are available. 905-382-2306.

  • Point Abino Lightstation Preservation Society general meeting at the Crystal Ridge Library, 89 Ridge Rd. 6:30 pm. Preparation for the upcoming lighthouse tours and summer festivals are on the agenda. New members welcome.

  • Niagara Christian Community of Schools presents 'Oliver' May 21 and 23 at 6:30 pm, May 24 at 6 pm. Advance tickets only by calling 905-871-6980. Also school open house May 21 at 1 pm.

  • GEMS (Girls Everywhere Meeting the Savior) club for girls in Grades 1-8, 6:30-8:00 pm at the Fort Erie Alliance Church, 118 Bertie St. Girls who like to cook, make crafts, sing, dance and perform short plays are invited to join us. 4-5 yr olds are welcome to join Kindgom Kids club, which will also meet on Thursday evenings.   • Garage sale, 8 am to noon at St. John's Stevensville United Church, Sodom Rd, Snyder. Lots of donated items. Fundraising event to send a kid to summer camp.

  • Fort Erie Horticultural Society plant and garage sale. 8 am-noon at Lions Douglas Heights Seniors Centre, 265 High St. Everyone welcome. Event runs rain or shine. 905-382-4467.

  • Stevensville Kinettes, Kinsmen and firemen accepting donations for fundraising garage sale. Bring gently used items to fire hall from 10 am-4 pm. Call Penny, 905-382-1987.

  • Photography exhibit, 10 am-4 pm at Beachcombers, 237 Ridge Rd. N, Ridgeway. To celebrate the end of the first season, the Ridgeway Digital Camera Club is mounting an exhibit of work. Admission is free and guests will be eligible for a free draw for a gift basket.

  • Fort Erie Conservation Club children's fishing derby for kids 12 and under accompanied by an adult. 8 am-noon. 2555 Ott Rd., Stevensville. Great prizes and refreshments available.

  • Ridgeway Community Church Women in Touch presents a "Simplify Your Life" workshop, 6:30-8:30 pm, featuring Kate Marcil of "At Your Service." $10 at the door includes hands-on workshop, refreshments, devotional, door prizes & more.   • Fundraiser for Roger Hill's family. Roger Hill was killed in a tragic workplace accident at Ridgemount Quarries on January 21, 2008. The family of Roger Hill have lost their home and are experiencing financial hardship. The fundraiser is being organized to help give the Hill family a second chance. 7 pm, Fort Erie Native Centre, Buffalo Road. Tickets $10/person or $15/couple. Monetary donations going directly to the family, or prizes that can be auctioned, will also be gladly accepted.

  • Gigantic indoor/outdoor yard sale. 8 am-1 pm, rain or shine. All kinds of excellent stuff. Ridgeway Community Church, 209 Ridge Rd. (corner of Elm and Ridge Road). Tell your neighbours and bring a friend. Donations of clean, saleable items welcome. Call Kate at 894-2695 or RCC at 894-2582 to arrange for drop off at or pickup.   • The Lundy's Lane Historical Society will meet for "Adversity and Loyalty: Niagara Falls First Residents," a presentation by Sherman Zavitz, the city's official historian. Society meetings are held the first Thursday of the month at 7:30 pm in the LaMarsh Room at the Victoria Avenue branch of the Niagara Falls Public Library. Memberships are now open: $10 per person per year, $12 for a family.

    JUNE 7

  • Stevensville Springfest by Kinettes, Kinsmen and firemen. Garage sale and breakfast from 8 am at firehall. Vendors, crafts, contests, food, enternatinment, etc from 10 am at Community Hall. 905-382-2910 or 905-382-3404.
