Residents at Kilean Lodge sprinkled a little stardust and a lot of magic over a mural that was unveiled last week at the Grimsby long term care facility.
It points the way to reaching for a dream and the in-house artists who participated in the five-month project truly touched the stars producing the work of art as a testament to the vigour and creativity of the human spirit.
The April 29 ceremony unveiled the piece 'Great Stars of the Universe' that now holds a colourful place of honour on the second floor living room at Kilean.
"It's really quite fantastic," said fine artist Elizabeth Gruevski, who headed up the project during the regular art classes she teaches at Kilean Lodge. "It holds a special place in my heart," Gruevski said.
Kilean Recreation Director Rachelle Ellis thanked Gruevski for helping the residents to make the project come together. They painted freehand, with spontaneous enthusiasm and each artist signed their name in a spray of stars throughout the constellation. The artist-residents all gathered at the unveiling to accept a certificate of their achievement.
Work on the mural started last fall after the unveiling of a first mural which hangs in the first floor living room at Kilean.
The talented team of artists included Joyce Robinson, Hillary Vance, Trudy Tenbrinke, Susanne Wilder, Andrew Wilder, Katherine Wolaniuk, Helen Benzinger, Herman Rootsaert, Winnifred Mines, Pat Gilles and Charles Radar. Former resident who participated included Christine Sidoruk, Jack Hendricks and Margarite Chapman.
