Two men were arrested in Grimsby on Victoria Day after a stolen truck crashed in town.
On Monday, May 19 at 1:04 a.m., the Niagara Regional Police Service responded to reports of a pick-up truck having crashed into a parked vehicle in a driveway, a cable box and several trees on Plum Tree Lane near Central Avenue.
The male driver of the truck fled the scene on foot prior to police arrival.
A perimeter was set up quickly in the area, and with a suspect description from witnesses, police soon found two males running from the area on Pinewood Avenue.
One matched the description of the driver.
After a short chase on foot, the two were arrested near Belmont Avenue.
Investigation revealed that the truck had been stolen from a residence on Pinewood Avenue just shortly before the crash.
It was also discovered that the pair had been entering unlocked vehicles in the area and were arrested with stolen property taken from several vehicles.
Charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000 was an 18-year-old Grimsby male. Charged with two counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000 was a 16-year-old Grimsby male.
Damage to the stolen truck, parked vehicle, cable box, trees and lawns is estimated to be in excess of $15,000.
