Residents crowded into Centennial Park Sunday afternoon, as the Town of Grimsby kicked off its Canada Day Week celebrations -- and summer -- in style.

Those that did attend were in for a treat. Magic shows, musical performances, rock climbing and fireworks were all part of Happening in the Park 2008.

"The evening was one of the best attended we've had in a while," said Sarah Sweeney, recreation coordinator for Grimsby.

She said the afternoon attendance fluctuated until the weather turned sunny to stay.

"The weather in the evening was just perfect, so we really lucked out," she added.

The inflatables, Play Soccer, and sno-cones were all highlights for area children.

On stage, it was the bands and Doug Feaver pulling in the accolades.

"There was a lot of people, and it was a great success," said Sweeney.

Canada Week festivities will continue until the big day July 1.
