Market planning cooking demo Thursday
Grimsby
Jun 25, 2008
The Grimsby Farmers' Market will be holding its first cooking demonstration this week.

On Thursday, the market welcomes local chef Joshua Groom from 13 Mountain Street. He will arrive at the market at about 5:30 p.m., tour the market to make purchases for his dinner recipe, and then cook s dinner for those in attendance. The demonstartion itself is expected to wrap up by about 6:15 p.m.

The opening of the market, according to steering committee chair Michelle Seaborn, has been strong. The committee is working hard, however, to continue to raise awareness about the market to Grimsby residents.

With the season changing, they are evolving to offer new produce and products. She said more vendors are setting up each week as homegrown products become available.

"We now have the first signs of fresh fruit and vegetables at the market. This week saw two vendors with tasty home grown strawberries, some sweetpeas, asparagus, and of course some hot house tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, egg plant and garlic," Seaborn said last week. "If the weather permits, we may actually see the first cherries next week."

There are still vendors with perennials, annuals, cut flowers, lamb, chicken, preserves, bakery items, greenhouse vegetables and more.

The Grimsby Farmers' Market is located at the St. George Ukranian Church, at the corner of Ontario Street and Adelaide Street in Grimsby and operates from 4:30 p.m. until dusk.
