Man arrested while trying to return stolen AC units
Grimsby
Jun 27, 2008
A 20-year-old West Lincoln man was arrested and charged last Wednesday, for allegedly trying to return items he had stolen from the Grimsby Real Canadian Superstore.

Police say the man stole the air conditioners on June 12 from the South Service Road store. The store contacted 8 District detectives and they initiated an investigation.

Det. Sgt. Richard Frayne said they contacted the suspect regarding the incident and on June 18, they received a call from the Superstore that he was trying to return the stolen air conditioning units.

Det. Sgt. Frayne said police responded to the scene and the suspect was arrested at the customer service desk, trying to return the items.

He is now facing two counts of theft under $5,000 and one count of fraud under $5,000. He was released from custody and will appear in court on August 15.

Police say the accused originally purchased an air conditioner and had used a receipt to walk in and out with the others. All of the stolen property was recovered.
