It was a spectacular show of pedigree and personality as more than 1,000 dogs put their best paws forward in a run for the ribbons at the St. Catharines and District Kennel and Obedience Club's 50th annual All Breed Championship Dog Show.
"We had a really high quality of dogs this year," show chairperson Marg Brown said Saturday at the Beamsville Fairgrounds. There were entries in 34 categories.
As part of the event, donations were collected for Animal Assistance Society, a group that offers animals for adoption that have been spayed or neutered and vaccinated.
Brown said the three-day show, sponsored by Purina ProPlan was well attended by spectators and drew excellent entries from the Southern Counties Hound Breeds Association with 89 entries, the Canadian National Cesky Terrier Club and for the All Breeds categories.
Top breeding programs are essential in the ring, Brown said. The competition "is fulfilling and rewarding." And at the end of the day, ribbon or not, dog owners still get to take home their best friend.
