The Lincoln Terry Fox Run is still on life support.
The Terry Fox Foundation, however, says it will be forced to pull the plug on the run if an organizer isn't found by next week.
"If we don't have anyone by Labour Day, we'll have to direct people in Lincoln to participate in the Grimsby run," says Kim Smith, Community Events Coordinator for the Ontario Terry Fox Foundation.
The Run is on Sunday, Sept. 14, and the bulk of the planning happens from now until the run itself. While originally someone was found, that fell through and the Foundation is still scrambling to fill the gap.
"It's not too late," she said, noting however, that "timing is critical."
There is, however, a number of other individuals who are prepared to assist in the planning, said Smith. Three others have expressed interest in helping as a team, but aren't prepared to take on the organizer's role.
The volunteer will need to manage time constructively, work well with other people, be willing to get involved in their community to promote the event and take pride in administrative details.
Since 1991, the Lincoln run, which happens in Beamsville, has raised more than $113,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation. The Terry Fox Foundation is the second largest non-governmental funder of cancer research in Canada.
Smith said they would like to continue to see the event happen in Lincoln. Should it not this year, they will encourage Lincoln residents to attend the Grimsby run, but they would like to continue to have a presence in Lincoln.
"Our philosophy is we want you to wake up on that day of the run and to be able to walk to the run in your community," she said.
Anyone wishing to get involved as organizer, or as a member of an organizing team is encouraged to call Kim Smith immediately at 1-888-836-9786, ext. 227.
