The Port Colborne Library wants to make reading fun for youth over the summer months.
Once kids pack away their paper and books for summer vacation, librarian Val Catton is hoping they come to the library for an array of activities and reading incentive program.
"We want to keep kids interested and involved with literacy over the summer months," Catton said. "The end of school doesn't mean the end of reading."
The library will once again participate in the TD Summer Reading Club which encourages youth to read during summer vacation through incentives. The more kids read the more prizes they win, Catton said.
Each child enrolled in the program must read a minimum of five books.
Catton said last summer a number of children read more than 20 books. She said there were 1,200 books read by 140 registered readers over summer vacation.
Along with the reading club the library will be offering programming every week throughout the summer.
There will be free story time every Tuesday and Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. for children six and under and library bingo Thursdays from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday afternoons are cartoon time at the library.
There are also a number of activities that require prepayment from arts and crafts to movie time and yoga.
A full list of library activities can be found on the library's website www.portcolbornelibrary.org.
