Honey Money back for another year

If you win the Honey Money draw this year, you can keep the jar, the money and the honey.

"They can keep it. It's not true that it has to be donated," Jim Green, the fundraiser's organizer says.

"I just wish them luck in getting all the honey off and wrapping up all those coins to take to the bank."

The 76-year-old Smithville resident says the last two times he's done this fundraiser through which he raffles off a pickle jar full of $137 of nickels and dimes submerged in honey to raise money for the West Lincoln Memorial Hospital Foundation, people have donated the jar back in order to do the draw again.

Green says this year he doesn't need the jar back because he has a new jar, another $137 and lots of honey, donated by Charlie Bee Honey.

So this time the big winner will be a little richer and a little stickier.

Green was at the Beamsville No Frills June 14, selling tickets at a $1.37 each for the raffle, which is scheduled for June 24 at 4 p.m. at Poultry Fest in Smithville.

This year, Green will donate the money to the West Lincoln Memorial Hospital's Project X-Ray.

"We're hoping to break $500 this year," he says.
