Resident banned from WL council meetings
West Lincoln
Jun 27, 2008
West Lincoln resident Peter Schaller has been banned from attending council meetings because of his continuous rude behaviour in town hall.

Schaller has approached council many times in the past year on the same issue.

He believes winter salt, spread on Regional Road 69 by the Niagara Region, killed 200 of his four-foot cedar trees planted along his property line.

"The amount of salt they have been using the last five years is terrible," he has said, while repeatedly criticizing Mayor Katie Trombetta for her work as a regional councillor.

"You're not doing your job," he said Monday, June 21.

When Schaller approached the stand even after receiving response from the mayor, the region and public works chair Ald. Norm Johnson at a recent meeting, council decided to draw the line.

"Your buddy presented false information," he told Mayor Trombetta, pointing at Ald. Johnson.

After Schaller spoke, he continually interrupted the mayor during her response.

"Mr. Schaller, I've been respectful of your presentation, now please be respectful of mine," said the mayor.

Schaller continued to interject, and council moved on to the next subject.

A bylaw was presented by Johnson, in which Schaller "will not be permitted to come to any more meetings."

Ald. Sue-Ellen Merritt said the rule should be less specific, and should apply to "anyone who behaves as he does."

But for the time being, all aldermen were in favour of the new bylaw.
