Man arrested after standoff
West Lincoln
Aug 20, 2008
A 73-year-old West Lincoln man was arrested and charged, after a five-hour standoff with police last Friday night.

At about 9 p.m., police were called to a home on Caistor Centre Road in West Lincoln. A woman was screaming for help during the call.

Soon after police arrived, the woman said a male resident of the house was standing behind the front door of the home with a shotgun. She was able to flee the residence, however. The NRP Emergency Task Unit were called in, and after a lengthy negotiation of about five hours, the accused surrendered to police.

Police say there was difficulty in terms of communication, as the accused spoke a Calabrese dialect of Italian.

The female had received injuries during the dispute leading up to the standoff, but there were no other injuries during the incident. She was treated by paramedics at the scene.

The accused was charged with one count of assault, four counts of unsafe storage of a firearm and one count of unsafe storage of ammunition.

Several firearms and a large quantity of ammunition were also seized during the incident.
