Health tax not helping Port Colborne
Letters
Jun 27, 2008
It's incredibly frustrating to see our critical care unit (CCU) in Port Colborne still closed for over 1 year.

Recently, taxpayers filed their income tax returns and were reminded to pay Premier McGuinty's "Health Tax." Most residents will agree that if we are paying more in health taxes - that we should see an increase in local health services. But the opposite is happening in Port Colborne where we have:

  • no confirmed date for the CCU re-opening

  • delay after delay for constructing our much-needed emergency room; and have

  • to pay out of pocket for privatized health services like optometry, physiotherapy and chiropractic care

And now we learn the McGuinty Liberals are using public funds - our Health Tax dollars - to pay for sex change operations.

When Mr. Jones can become Mrs. Jones on my tax dollar, but I've got to pay out of pocket for an eye exam, the time has come for the Premier to reassess his health care priorities.

He can start that reassessment by re-opening our critical care unit.
