Leafing through the pages of an 'award-winning community newspaper' that arrived in our mailbox on Friday the 13th, I happened on the editorial page and its one editorial. So what do the award winners think is important this week? Ah, the theme music to a hockey broadcast.
Huh? You refer to it as 'the tune every Canadian recognizes within three notes'; may I suggest you cut back on the hyperbole? There is no doubt that many Canadians watch Hockey Night In Canada, but may I dare also to suggest there are many more who do not.
Is it really worth your editorial space to give a pat on the back to a TV network that 'knew the value and P.R. benefit' to paying $2-million for the rights to the song, and the back of a hand to a network that 'does not consider Hockey Night in Canada sacred.'
Sacred? C'mon. Is there really nothing happening in Niagara This Week, let alone our own community, that's more worthy of comment than the fact that celebrities (Ron McLean, Don Cherry) might not be on the air?
