Re: recent articles in which it has been stated by Dr. William Shragge and Dr. John Mcauley from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. cases in Fort Erie and Port Colborne average less than one patient per hour and urgent care centres would be open 14 hours ---- 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Recently I had to be taken to Port Colborne General Hospital emergency room at 4 a.m. Medically, I was unable to wait until 8 a.m. There were several other patients there, being treated, so the theory of Dr. Shragge and Dr. Mcauley seemed to be incorrect that night.
I received wonderful, professional care from the nurses and Dr. Rivers. I was fortunate to be treated here and did not have to go to Welland or elsewhere, to wait for many hours.
I wonder if these two doctors or their families will ever have an emergency medical condition that will need to be treated in the middle of the night that cannot wait until the morning? I hope they never do. If so, they may realize what patients need and how they feel.
I wonder if these two doctors will consider the human side of this situation and not just the statistics and finances.
It was a comfort for me to diagnosed, stabilized and treated immediately with such great care. Had I waited longer, there would have been more serious complications.
Thanks Port Colborne General emergency department. I hope and pray you will continue to function as you are definitely needed.
