Ban the drive-thru to make a difference quickly

With all the pre-election blather and gab about carbon tax this and cap-and-trade that, no one has yet come upon the idea that would actually do the job.

I propose one single measure which alone would reduce our carbon footprint on the world, improve air quality, save gasoline and make Canada the green haven all parties want, but without revenue-neutralling us right in the wallet.

This single overlooked item would be so unpopular that no political party would dare broach the subject let alone promise to implement it. The hue and cry that would echo across the land from even those who profess to be "green" and would rather put us in the dark just to close a single coal-fired power plant would be deafening.

What, you may well ask, is this radical environment saving plan? What is this heinous plan that would out-green any "green shift" or carbon tax and would be so unpopular with the majority of pronounced pro-environmental Canadians?

Immediately and forever ban every fast food and coffee drive-thru in the land.

Effective? Of course it would be.

Unpopular? Without a doubt.

Will the new government implement such a plan? Fat chance.
