While Kim McQuhae is used to having visitors to her Larkin Road farm, never did she expect a bus load of people to show up all at once.

On April 24, the Niagara-on-the-Lake farmer and owner of Gryphon Ridge Farms was surprised to see 19 people at her doorstep wanting a tour of her facilities. The visitors were members of a delegation of organic farmers from Thailand that was visiting the region last Thursday to learn about organic farming in Canada.

"They must have taken a zillion pictures while they were here," McQuhae said. "They walked around the farm, asked about the organic eggs and took notes and everything. They then presented me a place mat made of organic silk as a thank you."

Prayoth Benyasut, deputy director of the Thai Trade Centre in Toronto, the organizing group behind the trip, said he knew of McQuhae from an organics farmers brochure he received in the mail. Benyasut said the farmers were part of the ministry of commerce in Thailand and they visited organic producers and supermarkets to see what the market is like in Canada.

"We're looking to put out Thai organic products in Canada and wanted to see if its viable," he said. "We did a survey and contacted many growers from the region and saw what they were doing. It was interesting."
