West Street merchants will meet with city staff and the BIA May 15 to look at the possibility of converting the downtown street to a one way from Clarence to Sugarloaf Street.

The issue was first raised by Coun. Frank DiBartolomeo at an April council meeting. Prior to the meeting the BIA held a vote during one of its meetings in which the majority were in favour of closing the street off to two-way traffic. DiBartolomeo, as the council representative on the BIA, made a motion directing staff to come back to council with a report and traffic study.

When the motion was passed it was amended to include all West Street merchants be notified and included in the discussions.

Staff from the city's engineering department will meet with West Street merchants and property owners as well as members of the BIA May 15 at city hall. The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m.
