The sound of water splashing gently over rocks has brought an oasis of peace and tranquility to the grounds at the McNally House hospice in Grimsby thanks to the generosity of two local businesses.

The professionals from Cole's Florist and Garden Centre and pond manufacturers Aquascape Inc. were up with the sun recently and invited the community to come out and lend a hand to build a "pondless" waterfall for McNally House.

The team from Cole's and Aquascape oversaw construction from the design and digging to installing lights, rocks, watercourse and the system that circulates the water through a bio-falls mechanism.

Local residents, gardeners and landscapers dropped by to watch the work in progress and by day's end, the waterfalls had taken beautiful shape as a main attraction outside the front door of the hospice.

There's something soothing about just sitting and listening to the sound of water splashing gently over rocks, and the waterfall. It will be enjoyed for years to come.

His back bent over a shovel throughout the day, Dave Cole was thrilled to be part of the joint project between Cole's and Aquascape.

"It will be a great place to sit back, relax and listen to the waterfalls," he said as the workday wrapped up with the waterfalls complete and the surrounding ground readied for planting.

Coles thanked Battlefield Equipment for its donation of a mini-excavator to prepare the ground and Mason Construction for donating the soil. The day also served as a training workshop for local landscapers and residents who came out to help and learn.
