Bandshell series rocks Peace Park

Rain could not keep a crowd from flooding Peace Park for the first night of the Thursday bandshell concert series.

A sea of umbrellas could be seen across the park as hundreds of spectators braved the rainy weather to catch opening night last week.

Take a few songs from the 1950s and '60s, add the vocal harmonies of three brothers, combine that with a high-energy show and you have Jeffery and the Juniors -- that's how the band describes their sound. With Jeff Neudorf on vocals and guitar, Peter Neudorf on vocals, Billy Neudorf on bass, Dano Murray on lead guitar, Ross Wooldridge on keyboards and Jim Casson on drums, the band rocked the show with with songs from the golden era Rock'n'Roll.

The concert series began last week and will rum from 7-9 p.m. every Thursday until Sept. 4.

The series isn't just about rock and roll. This year's lineup features a mix of acts including jazz and blues, country, steel drumming and polka. Local acts include Fonthill's Mostly Gormans, Niagara Music Award winner Angela Siracusa and Canada's Polka King, Walter Ostanek.

The bandshell concert series stemmed from Fonthill's 150th birthday celebration in 2006 and has since grown to an annual summer event that is highly anticipated throughout the season. Last year, hundreds of spectators filled the park for many shows and last week's show drew about the same despite rainy conditions. The Ned Green band will play rhythm and blues next week. The series coincides with the Farmers Market, which runs every Thursday in the municipal hall parking lot beginning at 4:30 p.m. Visit www.fonthillbandshell.com for the concert schedule.
